WordPress is one of the easiest content management systems (CMS) out there. If you don’t know how to use WordPress, then you just have to follow small and basic steps to master it.

You won’t find a better and user-friendly blogging tool than WordPress. It has evolved over time and the recent WordPress 5.6 version has totally changed WordPress. It has become easier to use with lots of new features that will help you create a stunning website within minutes.

For beginners, it is extremely necessary for you to know how to use WordPress. We will be discussing small tips and tricks that will help you understand how WordPress works and how you can manage things easily. Let’s have a look at how to use WordPress as a beginner.

How to Create Posts & Pages in WordPress

For a beginner, it can be confusing. However, WordPress makes it extremely easy to get started with your first website. If you are running a blog, you will have to understand how to create a new post and edit it properly.

To get familiar with WordPress blog posts, you will have to login to your Dashboard first. After logging into the backend of your website, you will be able to see a tab named, ‘Posts’.

Here, you will be able to edit and create all of the blog posts of your website. All you have to do is to go to Dashboard > Posts > Add New.

WordPress has a default Gutenberg editor that will help you create a post. You will be able to see multiple options for creating content. You can start by giving your post a title and then create an article body.

Apart from it, you will be able to see a complete panel on the left of your computer screen. You will be able to select a category, update tags, and set a featured image for your posts.

As a new user, you must be familiar with the basic knowledge. To manage and update your site’s basic information, you should be familiar with general settings.

You can navigate to Dashboard > Settings.

Here, you will be able to see multiple tabs including General, Writing, Reading, Discussion, Media, and Permalinks settings.

In General Settings tab, you will be able to update the basic information of your website including Site Title, Tagline, Admin email address, etc.

Moving to the Reading tab, you will be able to set your homepage display. Here, you can set a specific page as a homepage or your latest blog posts as your homepage.

Permalink settings are important for your blog posts. To improve SEO, we highly recommend to set permalink settings to ‘PostName’ settings.

WordPress is an open source platform and it offers tons of great features. You can use different third-party tools with this platform to enhance functionality of your website. If you think that WordPress is limited to only blogging, then you are absolutely WRONG.

With premium themes and plugins, you can easily enhance the functionality of your website. To install new plugins, you will have to navigate to Dashboard > Plugins > Add new. Here, you will be able to see different plugins available in the WordPress plugin repository.

Getting to Know WordPress Dashboard

Your dashboard shows everything that you have created on your website. You will have multiple options and tabs that you can visit to check out their functionalities.

There is an option to create a quick draft for your posts. You can use that option to save a draft that you can edit later.

Apart from it, you will be able to see multiple tabs including Appearance tab. In appearance tab, you will be able to customize the overall look of your website including logo options and theme color settings.

You will also be able to manage themes and theme settings (if offered by the theme you are using). Apart from it, you will be able to create and edit menus. You can use different post types for menu items. You can also use categories, pages, and custom links as your menu items.
